David Leung

Associate Conductor

With two graduate awards, David Leung is currently attending the Eastman School of Music, where he studies with Professor Mikhail Kopelman (former leader of the Borodin and Tokyo String Quartets) and serves as his teaching assistant. He graduated from Eastman in May, 2004 with a Master of Music with a Performer's Certificate in violin. With a full scholarship from Eastman, David is continuing his studies for a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree. A native of Hong Kong, David Leung started studying the violin with Tong Lung at the age of six. He was accepted into the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 1989 to study with Lo Chu-Tung. He then studied with Professor Michael Ma during his undergraduate years and performed widely in the school and at the Government House. As the concertmaster of the Academy Symphony Orchestra, he performed as both a soloist and conductor of the orchestra in Europe during the summers of 1999-2001. He graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Music with first class honors. He has been the recipient of many awards and scholarships, including the Bloomberg Scholarship, Inverstec Music Prize, Standard Chartered Community Foundation Scholarship, Guinness Flight Music Prize, Soong Ching Ling Children's Palace Scholarship, St. David Lodge Music Award, and the Ruggiero Ricci Violin Performance Merit Award.
